Things to do in Commerce Square

4.5/5 (417)

Lisbon’s Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), situated on the site of the former Royal Palace, is the city’s main square today. Looking over the Tagus River from its south side, Commerce Square is the cultural and commercial heart of Lisbon. Closed on three sides by its characteristic yellow painted buildings, there is an abundance of architectural beauty to admire from Commerce Square including the Rua Augusta Arch and the Equestrian Statue of Joseph I. Formerly the docking port for all goods arriving in Lisbon, this was truly the most bustling point of the city. Although no longer an active commercial port, the square maintains its significance today as the “door” to Lisbon. Near all major central attractions of the city, a tour around the Praça do Comércio is a must-do on any trip to Lisbon!

“We had Marie on the afternoon of Tuesday 10th June. We enjoyed the tour which lasted almost 3.5 hours. The tour was informative of the history and founding of Lisbon along with seeing some of the main highlights of downtown Lisbon. The tour was enhanced by some tastings of wine and local delicacies.”

“très bon accueil à l'aéroport. nous avons pris la carte pour 72h et je pense qu'il faudrait prévoir une option pour l'étendre à 96h.Tres pratique pour tous les transports. Il serait bien aussi de prévoir des explications en Français sur ce qui est compris dans le prix de la carte.”

“Très satisfaisante pour les transports. Dommage que la durée soit seulement de 72 h. Il serait bien d'aller jusqu'à une semaine. Très bien aussi pour certaines visites. Dans l'ensemble très bien”

“Well worth it to save time and money - we used the card for the trams, the buses, the train and for entrance into the Castle and Monastery. Highly recommend it. The train journey to Cascais was a particular hi-light, lovely place by the sea, regular service, trains on time.”
